My husband may take a job with Wholefoods market to be opened in baton rouge soon. What are good neiborhoods that are in a artsie fartsie area of town. Where there would be alot of shops and good restraunts within close walking distance. Would be a plus if it was close to Wholefoods, but I don't know where they are building it. We homeschool, so schools don't matter at all. We just like to be in a creative and eclectic community. Thanks for any help!

Ok.. first things first.

Baton Rouge isn't very "walk" friendly.

The way Baton Rouge is setup it's more "driver" friendly.

However, I have a suggestion for you:

Click:
Capital / Capitol Heights

It's definately "Artsy Fartsy" and does have some good stores/restaurants within walking distance.

Yes.. the subdivision or whatever you would call it is called Capitol Heights.

The street that runs through the middle of it is also called Capitol Heights.

It's sandwiched between Government Street and Claycut and starts at Jefferson Hwy and Ends at Acadian Thrwy.

That area of town has been really hot lately a lot of the older homes have been renovated.

It's also near to Whole Foods - Whole foods is being built futher down on Jefferson Hwy.

I need to get my realtor to sign up here so she can field these kinda questions.

FYI:

I believe the Whole Foods store is going up near the corner of Jefferson and Old Hammond

Yep. It's going up on Jefferson Hwy. between Old Hammond (or I guess in this case it's technically Corporate Blvd.) and Lobdell.

If you drive past it you can't miss the construction right now.

Probably the most sought after piece of property in Baton Rouge ever (right in the center of town and never touched).

Yeah, it sounds like the Capital Heights neighborhood may be the place for you. Spanish Town is also kind of "artsy fartsy", but it is located downtown, and, as such, is not as close to the business that you mentioned. The Garden District and Hundred Oaks are also kind of in the same boat, although they are located just outside of downtown (still, very good places to live during Mardi Gras and St. Patrick's Day though, given the parade routes...).
